Updated 20 September 2026
Species Brisbane residents see
- American cockroach: drains, sewers and sub-floors.
- Australian cockroach: gardens, mulch and roof voids.
- Smokybrown cockroach: trees, gutters and roof spaces; flies to lights.
- German cockroach: kitchens and bathrooms, especially in apartments and older units.
Local factors
Raised Queenslander sub-floors, dense gardens, palms and a large stormwater network all provide habitat close to homes. Activity peaks on warm, humid nights from November to March.
